THE ROCKETEERS

Every once in a while a music act comes along that is truly unique
and refreshing in the product that it delivers - hot new acoustic duo The Rocketeers is one such act.
It’s the unusual but highly effective marriage of acoustic guitar,
upright double bass and silky smooth vocals that as well as being
visually interesting, creates The Rocketeers sound which can be
described as classy, relaxing and unobtrusive yet still lively and upbeatwith a general “foot tapping” vibe.

THE BAND MEMBERS
On acoustic guitar and vocals is talented and acclaimed guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Douglas Bean.
A highly experienced musician, Douglas has worked extensively over
the years with artists such as Tamara Dey and Wendy Oldfield and
was a longstanding member of S.A supergroup Henry Ate
Completing the duo on upright double bass and vocals is Wits
university music graduate Lionel Naidoo.
A young and super talented jazz trained musician, Lionel is a

magnetic performer with an infectious enthusiasm and love for his craft.

THE REPERTOIRE
The Rocketeers repertoire is built around the concept that a great song can be stripped down to its basic elements and still sound fantastic.
New life is breathed into classic hits from the various genres of the
60’s 70’s 80’s and 90’s as well as fresh acoustic interpretations of
some of today’s biggest songs.
A few favourite jazz tunes like Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon”,
Gershwin’s “Summertime” and Nina Simone’s “My Baby Just Cares forMe” are also thrown into the mix to add that extra touch of class.

THE BOTTOM LINE
In their own special way The Rocketeers fuse the class and
sophistication of a jazz band with the crossover appeal of a cover band.
